No. We guarantee to accept you without a medical. We don't ask any intrusive questions or require a medical report.
No. Your premiums are fixed. They will never increase, even as you get older or if you become ill.
Payments are by Direct Debit only. This is an easy and convenient way to pay your premiums and means you don't need to worry about forgetting to make a payment. What's more, in the unlikely event of an error arising, we guarantee to refund any amount paid in error.
This depends how you apply for your plan. If you apply over the internet or by telephone, you could be covered immediately. If you apply by post, your cover will start once we have processed your application. You'll receive your policy documents a few days later.
As long as you pay your premiums, your cover is guaranteed for the whole of your life. What's more, once you reach the age of 90 you stop paying premiums but your cover will carry on for the rest of your life. If you stop paying premiums before age 90, the plan will stop and life cover will cease.
You can terminate your policy at any time by writing to us.
Yes - you can increase your cover by taking out additional plans, provided the total monthly premiums payable by you on any plan(s) taken out post 1st January 2007 do not exceed £50. The premiums from any Over 50s Life Cover Plan taken out pre 1st January 2007 are excluded from this limit.
No - the Over 50s Life Cover Plan is not a savings plan and has no cash in value.
All benefits will be paid out free of income and capital gains tax. However, they may be subject to inheritance tax unless your policy is written in trust. The information on this website reflects the Society’s understanding of current law and HMRC Practice which are subject to change.
No commission is payable by engage to a third Party.
No, we offer single life policies; so if you each take out a policy the surviving partner will still have life cover should one of you die.
Previously known as Homeowners Friendly Society, engage is a well-established UK company. As a mutual, we serve our members and have no shareholders. We have over 28 years of experience in providing straightforward, good value savings and life insurance products.

If you die within the first 2 years of taking out your Over 50s Life Cover, the full cash sum will not be payable. Instead engage will pay to your estate or nominated beneficiary the benefit payable under the Terms and Conditions of your engage Over 50s Life Cover which is detailed in your Policy Documents. However, your representatives will still be able to use The Co-operative Funeralcare Contribution as shown on your Certificate of Entitlement towards the cost of your funeral, provided it is being arranged by The Co-operative Funeralcare.
It is important to keep paying your premiums. Please refer to the Key Facts in your Policy Documents for details of what would happen to your Over 50s Life Cover if you stopped paying your premiums for any reason. If you miss any of your premiums the charge would be removed meaning no payment would be made to The Co-operative Funeralcare towards your funeral costs. If the charge is removed, The Co-operative Funeralcare will also not provide the Contribution towards the cost of your funeral.
You can only charge one engage Over 50s Life Cover policy to The Co-operative Funeralcare.
The money that would have been paid to The Co-operative Funeralcare would simply be paid to your estate or nominated beneficiary by engage Mutual Assurance. The Co-operative Funeralcare Contribution would not be valid.
Yes. Just write marking the letter for the attention of Customer Services at the following address:
engage Mutual Assurance
Hornbeam Park Avenue
Harrogate
HG2 8XE
engage Mutual Assurance will then inform The Co-operative Funeralcare that you would like to cancel the charge. The Co-operative Funeralcare will then release the 'charge' and your Over 50s Life Cover would continue as normal. Under these circumstances, The Co-operative Funeralcare would have no obligation to provide your funeral services and the Contribution will not be valid.
Once the 'charge' against an Over 50s Life Cover has been cancelled it cannot be reinstated and you would not be entitled to 'charge' any other plans to The Co-operative Funeralcare.
A Legal Charge can be cancelled either by yourself or by the administrator of your estate.
If your next of kin decide not to use The Co-operative Funeralcare to arrange the funeral, they can write marking the letter for the attention of Customer Services at the following address:
engage Mutual Assurance
Hornbeam Park Avenue
Harrogate
HG2 8XE
engage will inform The Co-operative Funeralcare that they wish to cancel the 'charge'. The Co-operative Funeralcare would then release the 'charge' and the benefit payable would be paid to your estate or nominated beneficiary. The benefit payable would then be paid to your estate or nominated beneficiary by engage. The Co-operative Funeralcare Contribution would not be valid.
Your representative will need to provide The Co-operative Funeralcare Funeral Director with the original Certificate of Entitlement and a copy of your death certificate. The Funeral Director will access the details of any personal wishes you have registered with The Co-operative Funeralcare and the funeral arrangements will be made accordingly. Your representatives will be issued with a detailed estimate of funeral costs before any of the funeral arrangements are made.
The Funeral Director will confirm the total amount available from your Over 50s Life Cover Plan and The Co-operative Funeralcare Contribution, this amount is then put towards your funeral costs. If there is an outstanding balance to pay for the agreed funeral arrangements, this will need to be paid by your representatives at the time of arranging the funeral.
No. In 'charging' your engage Over 50s Life Cover you are saying that you want the benefit payable from your policy and The Co-operative Funeralcare Contribution to be used towards the cost of your funeral. These services are not specified in advance as they would be when a Funeral Plan is purchased and your representatives will need to make the arrangements for your funeral at the time of your death.
If you die abroad and wish to have your funeral conducted in mainland Great Britain or Northern Ireland, The Co-operative Funeralcare will be able to arrange repatriation to the UK. The Funeral Director will advise your representatives of the costs and these charges will be included in the total amount of your funeral costs. Provided that your funeral is arranged with The Co-operative Funeralcare the 'charge' on your engage Over 50s Life Cover and The Co-operative Funeralcare Contribution will still apply.
