how green are you?

Trees planted at Somercombe Wood, Somerset/Devon border

The findings from our environmental survey in April 2008 showed that unsurprisingly almost all of you are concerned about the earth’s environment. Most would also welcome companies setting out what they’re doing to minimise their impact on it, including Engage Mutual

customer panel members quotes who completed this survey:

It is very encouraging that our customer panel members are acting in an environmentally friendly manner

"I look out for ethical and environmentally sound products... electricity and gas, Fairtrade"

"I buy more expensive products which are better for the environment, make things last longer, reuse certain packaging…"

"I go out of my way to deal with companies that provide the product or service I want. If there is more than one I will look to see which has the most socially responsible attitude…"

"it’s good that the company is thinking in terms of corporate social responsibility… "

"although money is important to me as a reward, I now have a daughter and giving her the chance to live a good future is important…"

"I think carbon-offsetting can be misleading. I’d rather see companies reduce the amount of damage they do to the environment in the first place instead of having to ‘compensate’ the planet we live on because of the how they operate"

six trees planted thanks to the Engage Mutual customer panel!

It is very encouraging that our customer panel members are acting in an environmentally friendly manner...

  • 85-90% of customer panel members surveyed are concerned about the environment and expect companies to say what they are doing to reduce their impact on it, including Engage Mutual.

  • 91% of panel members make, or expect to make, small personal sacrifices to reduce their impact on the environment. These range from increased recycling and composting, purchasing produce in less packaging, using cars less and walking and cycling more, to using LPG fuel and fitting solar panels

  • Over 50% of panel members go out of their way to buy from companies that have an environmental policy

  • Nearly 50% of panel members would respond positively to a carbon-offsetting customer incentive from Engage Mutual.

As a special ‘thank you’ to all those customer panel members who completed this survey, Engage Mutual is working with co2balance.com (part of the CarbonZero Group) to plant six trees in Somercombe Wood.

This is co2balance’s latest woodland as part of their Carbon Offset Projects, located in the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) on the Somerset/Devon border, near Hemyock. At 35 acres, it is one of co2balance’s larger plantations and incorporates 5 acres of mature woods and wetland.

For anyone interested in visiting this woodland, why not go to www.co2balance.uk.com for directions, alternatively type the postcode EX15 3QX into a SatNav or internet route-finder. The postcode takes you to a farm called Higher Mackham Farm, the woodland is just down the lane from this farm.
