Movember 2010 Group

our staff and charity support

As a mutual organisation, giving something back is really important to us and our staff are always keen to help and support people, be these customers, each other, our local community or charities. This is clearly demonstrated by some of the fantastic things our staff have been part of.

In addition to supporting Saint Michael's and the Steve Prescott Foundation, the charities we back as an organisation, staff go to great lengths for causes that are particularly close to their hearts. They've grown moustaches in honour of Movember, worn poppies with pride, taken part in 'Apprentice'-style challenges and run a half marathon to raise funds.

Those who opt to make a regular charitable contribution can donate directly from their salaries. We've won a Gold award for Payroll Giving - a recognition of our staff's take up of the scheme, through which they give to at least 25 various health, animal and children's charities, both here and overseas.

A selection of our latest and best employee charitable moments are summarised below. To get a sense of the range of activities staff get involved in, you can also take a look at our video – this is from 2010.

Poppy Appeal

wearing a poppy with pride

In support of the 2012 Poppy Appeal our website was proud to wear a Royal British Legion Poppy in November. Poppies were available to all staff and visitors at our Harrogate office, and Engage Mutual matched the amount raised through these donations.

Poppy donations in the UK help provide financial, social and emotional support to serving members of the Armed Forces, ex-Service men and women (veterans), their families and dependants all year-round.

Winners

being part of something inspiring

A team of staff from across our organisation embarked on an 'Apprentice'-style challenge throughout October 2012 to raise vital funds for Saint Michael's.

Our team succesfully put their fundraising ideas into action to turn £100 into as much profit as possible for our neighbouring hospice. By creating and selling cook books and raffle tickets, and with the generous support of family, friends and the local community, we did just that!

We were competing against other teams from businesses in the local area and the team which raised the most money - in this case Team Engage Mutual - was crowned the 'You’re Inspired' Champions of 2012. Well done to the team and thanks to all who got involved.

Julia Elliott supports the Sue Ryder Hospice

running to raise money for Sue Ryder

Julia from our Business Change team successfully completed the Great North Run in September 2012 raising much needed funds for Sue Ryder - a charity which supports people living through the challenges of life-changing illness.

Part of The Airedale Dodgers running club which entered a team of 30 into the race, Julia personally raised £200 for the specialist care charity which runs the Manorlands Hospice near Bradford. Julia was our first employee to benefit from our new 'matched funding' initiative, seeing her fundraising efforts doubled.

Speaking of the run, Julia said: "I run with a friend of mine who works in palliative care at Manorlands and after hearing about the people she helps I decided to get involved and raise some money for the charity."
